Hol' A Meds 💊
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” ~ Psalm 1:1-2
It's a phrase that features prominently in the Jamaican landscape, especially among the conscious, the mindful and the "woke".
To "Hol' A Meds" is to take a deliberate refrain, or a little time out to meditate or reflect... typically upon some lesson or teaching that potentially holds, beneath the casual, visible surface, an invaluable treasure trove of wisdom and enlightenment.
As believers in Christ, it should be our daily endeavour to embark upon deliberate excavation of more understanding and more truth, hidden and waiting for us in God's Word.
The Bible makes reference to the scriptures as our daily bread, spiritual food, good for nourishment and upon which we should eagerly descend.... like park doves to scattered crumbs.
Some may see this daily connecting with God as optional, but in truth, it is as crucial to our spiritual health as sticking to our daily prescriptions is to our physical health.
Yes, there are people who habitually skip doses... who treat even life-saving medicine as an optional undertaking in their daily routine. Such persons short-change themselves and needlessly erode their own quality of life.
Life-saving meds come in all forms. That is a truth we know all-too-well, especially in such a time like this when arguments rage aplenty over vaccine this and vaccine that... and whether natural remedies are the ultimate form of self-care, etc. Whatever the format of delivery, there is no medicine that is effective if not taken and no remedy that will be as prescribed, if the medicine is not taken as prescribed.
In the same vein, we should contemplate our daily regimen of spiritual healthcare. Whether it's fasting, praying, praising, reading, worshipping... whatever it is and however you mix it, our daily devotions can take many different formats. We shouldn't get hung up... or worse yet stuck on... any set pattern of meditation. The most important thing, is that "holy-stically" speaking, we embrace a lifestyle of healthy Christian living where we spend time with God, allowing Him to speak to us... and allowing ourselves to listen.
Thankfully for us, the insurance is free, the prescription is free, the meds is free... the only cost to us then is submission... and once we've paid that price there is no obstacle and we'll be totally free always and at any time, to Hol' A Meds.
