Heart Positioned Right π
'When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.'" ~ Matthew 26:10-13
As we prepare for the upcoming season of Easter, we will likely at some point turn to that tale of special anointing, where Jesus was showered with a jar of expensive perfume.
There is so much that is unusual and unorthodox about that story. Β Some parts of it that man would've changed were instead glorified by God.
We see this often as a recurring pattern throughout Bible history, where characters of humble standings carry out some task or act, that God in turn uses, in an unexpected way mind you, to glorify His name and further the Kingdom of God.
Oftentimes these feats highlighted in the Bible are not the only act of ministry or service or even importance carried out by these characters, they just happen to be ones that God through His Holy Spirit has selected for use in teaching the masses some important lesson.
A lot of the time, these teachings come through some person who has had an encounter with God, which in turn leaves them with an experience with God, that transforms the way they live and want to serve.
If we look closely enough, we will see in these chosen servants hearts of love that have been touched by and groomed by God.
As we know, God isn't about having everyone fit in and looking like everyone else and doing what everyone else is doing. Β God is more about moving upon our hearts and empowering us to do what it is He has uniquely created each of us to do... bearing in mind that it may never be seen by the masses, or maybe even nobody but God.
If your heart is in the right place, however, it won't really matter if it's seen or unseen, just that God is pleased.
An encounter with God, will position your heart in the right place.
In the case of Jesus' anointing with perfume, it turns out that the woman was performing the honoured task of preparing Jesus' body for the burial that was to come as part of His victorious work in saving our souls.
She clearly sacrificed so much in carrying out this task that was given to her.. and in return, she has been forever Blessed by God with a promise of being a permanent and significant component in the story of the Gospel.
As we then reflect on the different aspects of Easter this year, let's keep an eye out for all the "smaller players" that played their humble part in Jesus' mission here on Earth and let us be so inspired, such that like them when opportunity finds us, it will find that we are ready to be chosen and used by God with a Heart Positioned Right.
