On August 14, 2021 many of us experienced an unexpected event.

The floor, the ground, walls, bed, ceiling fans and all kinds of other normally stationary things, started swaying.

This said event, took us on a journey of confusion, followed by denial, then realization, after which came action, then suspicion and finally relaxation.

The event was, of course, the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that struck off the coast of Haiti.

Where were you when it hit?  Can you identify with any of those stages in the journey?

This particular tremor was certainly long enough for many of us to have walked through most if not all the stages.

Here's another question for you: At what stage did you find yourself reaching out to God?

Whether it was a shout or a whisper, was it at the stage of denial?  Maybe just before taking action?  Or could it be only after relaxation perhaps?

Sometimes in life, we have our own visitation of unexpected events.  We all go through seasons, where our footing gets an unexpected shaking... where what we thought was firm foundation or fortified walls get shaken.

It could be the sudden passing of a loved one, a broken relationship, a health scare or some other life-altering event.

This can be really hard... really, really difficult to deal with... even just to make it through the haze of confusion and denial of what exactly is going on.

In an earthquake, the overwhelming advice of wisdom is to seek the strongest, firmest, most immovable structure you can find and run into it or under it.

So too, as difficult as it is, in life when it feels like the whole rug has been pulled out from under you, or one of life's surprises threatens to take your breath away, the advice is the same: Seek out the strongest, most immovable structure you can find and run-in.

God is always our Rock and our Fortress.  In Him we live and move and have our being... in good times and in the bad.  We run in and are safe.

For us, God is that almighty, immovable structure.

So whenever life comes at you, leaving you feeling shaky... and sometimes it can take a while for it to feel like the shaking has truly stopped... and you feel overwhelmed, be encouraged and lean on Jesus.  Remember, He's your Firm Foundation.
