Cancel That Culture 🙅‍♂️

It seems almost inevitable these days that as one becomes a celebrity and a massive success, that it is only a matter of time that something comes to light indicating some act, words or perspective that offends some group or runs afoul of public sentiment.

In the world in which we live, committing such contemporary cardinal sin evokes swift and succinct summary judgement that renders the offender's current and future career injured at best and totally obliterated at worst.

It doesn't really matter how long ago the offence was actually committed.  There is no statute of limitations.  It doesn't even matter whether the misstep is contrary to law... neither that of man nor that of God.

The only thing that matters is that enough persons have a negative reaction to the transgression, to trigger a viral movement.  Then the societal judge, jury and executioner hands down a verdict so instant that it would be enviable by even the most efficient of courts anywhere in the world.

For you, if you find yourself on the wrong side of such an infraction, there is seldom space for making amends and any moratorium on penalization is short-lived.  All roads barrel at breakneck speed towards cancellation.

This relatively newfound phenomenon has led to, what seems at least on the surface, to be meting out justice in ways that would not have been possible by traditional means, but the process is definitely not readily given to true penitence and repentance.

While as human beings we have that innate drive to have and see justice and fairness... and for that to be the order of the day, as children of God, let us temper that with God's love and a willingness and desire to forgive and allow for redemption.

The Bible warns that you can be sure your sins will find you out... and while this is a caution about the consequences of sin, the Bible is also quick to remind us that vengeance belongs to the Lord.

So in our quest for righteousness as we deal with people from all walks of life let us be careful not to allow that to turn into a quest for revenge.

Wouldn't it be great if we could repurpose that energy and use it instead to target the ungodly motives, movements and norms in our society and cancel those?

If we are followers of Jesus Christ, that's exactly what we are called to do, through introducing the world to what God says is the truth and the right way to live and the right way to love.

Remember, when you see others under the influence and grip of sin, it is never for us to gloat or wish them harm.  We are God's hands and mouthpieces, so it should be our desire for them to be transformed by the saving power of Christ, secured by His shed blood.

So, while we live in a time ruled by a strong Cancel Culture, let us be the emissaries of God, fighting for Godly reform through strategic targeting of the ungodly things that have become commonplace and the normal modus operandi around us and instead Cancel That Culture.
